Creating Community at the Nashville Creator Awards
This past Tuesday, I attended the Nashville Creator Awards at Green Hills Mall—and just like last year, it did not disappoint. The event was a vibrant celebration of local talent across four categories: Fashion, Family, Lifestyle, Home, and Local Entertainment. From creators sharing their stories to the community showing up to support, it was inspiring to be in the room.
There was a DJ keeping the energy up, an open bar, great food, giveaways, photo ops, Suzy Cakes cupcakes (which were so good), swag bags, and even a few familiar faces from last year. It truly felt like a restorative space for creatives—and I’m grateful to Green Hills Mall for the comped tickets and the warm welcome back.
Still, I’d love to see even more diversity next year—more Black creators in the room and on the ballot, and even more categories that reflect the depth of creative voices in this city. We’re here. We’ve always been here.
And speaking of that... I really hope that The Overdressed Black Girl is nominated for an award next year. This platform started as a love letter to Black women in fashion and culture—and it’s growing into something I’m incredibly proud of. To be recognized by the Nashville creator community would be such a full-circle moment.
Until then, I’ll keep showing up, creating, and celebrating everyone who dares to build something of their own.
